    Blogs We Love: Panning Portraits

Here’s the truth: really we just want to hang out with Brian Gaid. The dude has two killer car blogs and a healthy Flickr account that is just overstuffed with incredible car photos. Our favorite, for obvious reasons, is his Panning Portraits series. Here’s the idea, in Brian’s words: “There’s a street behind my house. I love to stand and take photos of the passing cars.” Done!

What we love about it is that Brian proves he’s an omnivore — there is no discrimination for or against country of origin, period or relative condition. A nice old Del Sol is found in the same stream as your mom’s RX crossover or a big ole Cat front loader. Lots of good stuff in there, in full swiped background glory.

  4. March 16, 2012 Reilly Brennan: 12 Hours of Sebring Couch Kit

    reillybrennan:

For 12 hours on Saturday I’ll be glued to my screens, watching the American Le Mans Series kickoff at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Admittedly, Sebring isn’t beautiful, but it is legendary. Traditionally known as the kickoff event for the ALMS teams, there’s more focus on the race in 2012 because…

“we are becoming ever more obsessed with outright power figures – mere meaningless statistics – and losing sight of what makes a car actually feel fast…
“I still believe that the pleasure of driving comes not from the absolutes of performance, but from the nature of its delivery. I would argue that Mazda’s MX-5, although not especially fast in outright terms, is a high-performance car because it heightens the sensations relayed during driving.”

High Dollar Ferrari Item of the Week: F40 Brakelight, $30,000

In this ongoing series, we marvel at the height of the tall grass known as the market for anything Ferrari. Come with us, ragazzo, as we empty our virtual wallet for a prance on a prancing horse.

There are Ferrari parts and then there are Ferrari parts. And despite its F40 provenance, this one does absolutely nothing for us. For that reason its $30,000 price is all the more amazing. Thirty large, my friends. Thirty large. It does come with free shipping.

Seller schlaunach (98.4% positive feedback) is going out on a limb here, likely hoping he catches one of the 1,315 F40 owners in need of the part in their quest to complete their 6- to 7-figure project job. He sure doesn’t put in a lot of effort to sell the thing. The description is a minimalist three-line stanza:

Stop Light for FERRARI F 40

    PartNo 142742

    brandnew

We’re not really sure this is an official Ferrari part. The sticker on the back appears new and German. Eurospares has this part in stock for about $150. Take your pick.

(UPDATE: now on sale! for $300 BIN.)
